Educational Attainment in the United States: 2021

On February 24, 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau released a table package, Educational Attainment in the United States: 2021, containing statistics on educational attainment by adults 25 years of age and older for the period 2011 to 2021. These statistics cover a range of demographic and social characteristics, including age, sex, and race.

Overall, the numbers show a rising trend of educational attainment. The number of people completing a bachelor's degree increased 7.5 percentage points to 37.9%. For adults completing advanced degrees, 24.1 million attained a master's degree (50.2% increase) in 2021 and 4.7 million attained a doctoral degree (54.5% increase).
